Anonymous street artists painted a dotted line and scissors on the defunct Matilija Dam in 2011. The dam has been slated for removal for years, but additional studies are being conducted to decide how best to deal with the trapped sediment and downstream water supply. DamNation

THIS CONTEST HAS ENDED, BUT PLEASE CHECK OUT SOME OF THE ENTRIES BELOW.

Post a photo on FB, Twitter, or Instagram of a deadbeat dam or your favorite river in your area and include #thatdamcontest and @patagonia. The DamNation film crew and the Patagonia photo department will pick the coolest/most creative image. Enter soon, the contest ends on June 7th, 2014!

You (and a friend!) could win a trip to the Olympic Peninsula to raft the newly freed Elwha River, attend a screening of DamNation, and spend the weekend with Matt Stoecker, co-producer of DamNation and underwater cinematographer and Dylan Tomine, an author who is featured in the film!

DamNation is on the road and opening for limited theatrical releases on May 9 in NYC at IFC Center, and in Los Angeles at the Laemmle NoHo on May 16. We also have lots of additonal screenings nationally, so check out the full list here.

Open to US residents only.
